ABOUT

Governor Kay Ivey’s Task Force on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), formed as part of Executive Order 738, served as a working body whose purpose was to understand current uses of GenAI, encourage the responsible and effective use of GenAI, and recommend policies and procedures related to the use of GenAI in Alabama’s executive-branch agencies.

The Task Force was chaired by the Secretary of Information Technology and included members from the Alabama Legislature, Governor’s Cabinet, and higher education institutions around the state. Individual working groups, comprised of Task Force members and additional IT personnel from across the executive branch, were also created to focus on specific areas related to GenAI policies and governance, workforce education and training, responsible and ethical use, and data management and ownership.

In November 2024, the GenAI Task Force submitted its Final Report to the Governor, and on March 25, 2025, Governor Ivey formerly released the report, which incorporated key definitions, an executive-branch GenAI inventory report, working group findings, and final recommendations.

Although the GenAI Task Force's work has concluded, the impact of their effort continues to influence state AI enablement moving forward.
