ABOUT

The State of Alabama is committed to the responsible, secure, and effective use of artificial intelligence across state government. Through the Office of Information Technology, Alabama has aligned statewide IT policy with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) frameworks and best practices, including NIST SP 800-37, NIST SP 800-53, and the NIST Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework.

This commitment is reflected in Alabama’s dedicated AI policies, including the Artificial Intelligence Governance Policy (AI-GV-P1) and the Alabama Generative AI Acceptable Use Policy (AI-GV-P2), which establish expectations for AI planning, implementation, procurement, security, privacy, acceptable use, human oversight, and ongoing risk management.

Together, these policies provide executive branch agencies, contractors, vendors, and other users of State information systems with a structured, risk-based foundation for adopting AI technologies while protecting State data, supporting compliance, and promoting trustworthy technology use.
