Deputy Secretary

Willie Fields serves as Deputy Secretary for the Alabama Office of Information Technology. In this role, he provides executive support to key agency projects and initiatives, as well as leading the Network Engineering Division of OIT.
Mr. Fields joined OIT in 2021 as the Director of Network Engineering after a successful tenure as the Chief Information Officer for the Alabama Department of Corrections, where he refined his IT management expertise in a large-scale public sector agency. Accumulatively, he has over ten years of service to the State of Alabama.
Prior to his state service, Mr. Fields served 22 years as a Cyberspace Operations Officer in the United States Air Force, retiring in 2011 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Throughout his extensive military career, Mr. Fields held numerous leadership positions, including as Commander of the 9th Communications Squadron and as Deputy Director of Plans and Programs at Air University headquartered at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.
Mr. Fields holds a master’s degree in administration (software engineering) from Central Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Alabama.
