The acting secretary of the state of Alabama’s Office of Information Technology (OIT), Jim Purcell, and Chief Information Security Officer, Ryan Allen, took time Tuesday morning to educate students at Fort Dale Academy in Greenville about all things related to information technology and cybersecurity.
The two told the students about the state’s new Security Operations Center (SOC), as well as OIT’s work to keep the recent elections free from data breaches or cyberattacks. They also spoke out about cyberbullying, including how to spot it and ways students can combat cyberbullying among their peers.
“Cyberbullying is something nearly every student of every age has been a witness to,” says Allen. “We want them to have the right tools to know how to fight back and put an end to the situation. “
Students in fifth–twelfth grades were a part of the special assembly.
