Good news! The State of Alabama Purchasing Department, in collaboration with OIT, has arranged to participate in a multi-state buying cooperative called NASPO ValuePoint. Run by the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO), ValuePoint is a clearinghouse of agreements that states can join and competitively bid with multiple participating states to increase the level of discounts. What does this mean to you? It means the purchasing agreements we enter into for IT equipment, services and software will be more cost effective and easier to maintain!
Thanks to ACT 2017-282, signed into law by Governor Ivey and effective October 1, 2017, Purchasing is authorized to enter into joint purchasing agreements for information technology goods and services. This clarification to purchasing law has cleared the way for us to join NASPO ValuePoint and other multi-state buying cooperatives.
Currently, the State of Alabama has selected two resellers who have software catalogs we can purchase using the statewide software contract, CDW-G and SHI. The discount levels are listed online and are less than we have been able to obtain before. The contracts can be found here on Master Agreement 999 17000000186.
