Multi-State Software Purchasing Contract – Saves Alabama Lots of Money

Good news! The State of Alabama Purchasing Department, in collaboration with OIT, has arranged to participate in a multi-state buying cooperative called NASPO ValuePoint. Run by the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO), ValuePoint is a clearinghouse of agreements that states can join that are competitively bid with multiple States participating to increase the level of discounts. The savings are far greater than Alabama could get by itself. What does this mean to you? It means the purchasing agreements we enter into for IT equipment, services and software will be cheaper and easier to maintain than ever before!

Thanks to ACT 2017-282, which was signed into law by Governor Ivey and became effective October 1, 2017, Purchasing is authorized to enter into joint purchasing agreements for Information Technology goods and services. This clarification to the purchasing law cleared the way for us to join NASPO ValuePoint and other multi-state buying cooperatives.

Currently, the State of Alabama has selected two resellers whose catalog of software we can purchase using the Statewide Software Contract; CDW-G and SHI. The discount levels are listed online and are less than we have been able to achieve before. The contracts can be found here on Master Agreement 999 17000000186.
